what the queen said, twice in one week

It is not often that one opens an email with information from the Palace. The Royal British Society of Sculptors is an international society of.....sculptors! This week we had an EGM and voted to change the name to the  Royal Society of Sculptors but to be all above board and tickety boo, the Queen must approve. She does, so we have had confirmation that we can go ahead. Watch out for the new logo coming soon. These are exciting times for the RBS and I hope that the new name will attract more members, especially from around the world.
On a very personal note, my wonderful parents received a card from the palace this week congratulating them on their diamond wedding anniversary.

New show of paper (not glass)

My name is in the middle of this, alongside some great artists. I am delighted to announce the first show for 2018 where I shall be showing paper sculpture. It will be great to see you if you can get along and the Chinese New Year Celebrations are always great! Many thanks to the London Group.

latest sculpture, first glass

I spent three months in Italy in 2016, a real life changing fellowship at the brilliant Fonderia Mariani in Pietrasanta. I have been popping back as often as I can as it is such an amazing place. For my last visit time I took a small wax as an experiment because the foundry have been expanding into casting in glass! I haven't seen this sculpture yet, this is the photo they sent through. There is still some cleaning up to be done but the piece has come out whole. I thought that I might be waiting until the autumn before I go back over but now.........

Too busy to blog?

A good friend today asked why I hadn't posted a blog for a while, he thought I was too busy.  I thought I should rectify this so here goes. I had the enormous pleasure of being part of a group show in Holborn Library in central London, we took this down today. The whole show came together really quickly and huge thanks go to Michelle and everyone who worked so hard to make it happen. Staff at Morley College where I teach, were offered the library space and about 30 of us made full use of every available place. I suspended 2 paper sculptures between the pillars in the main room.

results in 3D

Stage 1 in Yorkshire have invited me to use their scanner and 3D printer. Both are state of the art and the printer is huge - you could hold a party in there! Not knowing what to expect I used really textured paper for the paper maquette with torn edges, with complex forms and plenty of tricky to scan places. Here is the first result - I am amazed at what has been achieved (thanks to Jake at Stage 1) and now have plans to test the scanner and printer even more!
